The Film.
In 2024, the DomQuartier Salzburg celebrated its tenth anniversary. Reason enough to pay fitting tribute to the historical significance of this unique place in the musical documentary film “Amadeus, Amadeus – Sound of Winter Salzburg.”
In an 80-minute film with a fictional storyline that places Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his connection to this place in its music-historical context, we follow the protagonist Anna, played by Leopoldine Richards, through the DomQuartier Salzburg over four Sundays in Advent. Here she not only discovers the composer’s musical treasures but also finds her own way out of darkness into light.
The film was shot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Salzburg Cathedral, the DomQuartier Salzburg, Hohensalzburg Fortress, and in Salzburg’s Old Town.

The Cast.
The film’s musical journey is shaped by acclaimed performers: the young soprano Miriam Kutrowatz, a member of the Vienna State Opera; the outstanding mezzo-soprano Olivia Vermeulen; the renowned tenor and Mozart specialist Kammersänger Michael Schade; and the baritone Daniel Gutmann of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
Together with the Bachchor Salzburg and Ensemble Zefiro under the musical direction of Alfredo Bernardini, they journey toward Christmas, the spiritual high point of the season and the culmination of the production.

The Story.
At the heart of the story is a girl named Anna, played by Leopoldine Richards, who wanders through the DomQuartier Salzburg in the footsteps of Mozart and his music. The works are performed by four soloists, choir, and orchestra. Anna immerses herself in the history of the place and in Mozart’s unique world of sound. These encounters open up paths out of doubt and loneliness, and she experiences turning points from which she draws hope, strength, and confidence.
The course of the story follows the selection of Mozart pieces that accompany Anna’s development and transformation on her journey through Salzburg. The soloists and orchestra create worlds of sound that symbolize the gradual “awakening of light” as the film unfolds. The plot moves between Anna’s real world and a dream world that the music opens up to her.

In 2024, the film’s main location celebrated an anniversary: ten years of the DomQuartier Salzburg. The soloists Michael Schade, Olivia Vermeulen, Miriam Kutrowatz, and Daniel Gutmann presented the house with a musical birthday serenade.
